Inside the culture, mindset and team environment behind our growing business.

Why culture matters in fintech

In a fast-paced industry like fintech, culture and values matter more than ever. At Fire, we believe that people and values are just as critical to success as our product and technology. It’s the combination of talented individuals, a strong values-driven culture, and innovative solutions that enables sustained growth and resilience in a competitive market.

Culture and values shouldn’t just be words on a website, they should be reflected in how people are supported and whether they feel heard and trusted. A values-led culture boosts morale, reduces turnover, and helps teams stay focused and engaged. In a landscape where knowledge-sharing and collaboration are essential, a company’s strongest advantage is its people, and how well they’re set up to succeed.

This article offers a look at what it’s like to be part of the team at Fire: the culture, values and mindset that shape our workplace, support personal growth, and drive our success. If you’re considering joining us, this is your chance to see how we work, collaborate and grow together.

Our core values: The foundations of everything we do

Our values guide everything we do at Fire. We’re committed to five core values: Commitment, Service, Trust, People, and Innovation. These principles shape our decisions, drive our standards, and support the kind of culture where both our team and our customers can excel.

Commitment

At Fire, commitment means more than just showing up: it’s about taking ownership, staying accountable, and being invested in Fire’s direction. We believe in our mission and vision. Because we work in a relatively flat structure, everyone has a voice in shaping the strategy. We take pride in our work, act with integrity, and stand behind our decisions and actions. Every team member is a cornerstone of the business, valued and entrusted with responsibility.

Service

Putting customers first is central to how Fire operates. Service at Fire means consistently working towards the best possible outcome for our clients: not just delivering a product, but creating experiences that build trust and advocacy. Every team plays a role: the growth team actively gathers feedback and shares insights with our product team, who prioritise updates based on what will make the biggest difference for our customers. Our operations team ensures that support is responsive, helpful and easy to engage with, while our compliance department makes sure all teams meet their regulatory obligations. Being customer-first also means being honest, so if Fire isn’t the right fit for a business we communicate this clearly. It’s all part of building long-term relationships based on transparency and care.

Trust

Trust is the foundation of everything we do. At Fire, it means building risk management, compliance, and reliability into every layer of the business, from the technology behind the product to our day-to-day operations. With clearly defined controls, multiple lines of defence, and a strong sense of ownership, our systems and services are designed to be secure, stable, and dependable. We’re independently owned and fully regulated in both Ireland and the UK, and have been licensed to provide payment services for over a decade. As participants in key payment schemes and networks, we work with major financial institutions to deliver solutions they can rely on, with the confidence that comes from our solid foundations.

People

At Fire, we believe that great people make great teams, and that’s what drives our success. We keep things simple and work closely together, with open, honest communication at the heart of how we operate. As a small company with a flat structure, collaboration isn’t just encouraged, it’s essential. We constantly have the opportunity to learn from each other, and each team member brings their unique area of expertise to the table. Whether it’s sharing knowledge about payments, helping a colleague with a new task, or supporting a new joiner, we invest in helping each other grow and succeed.

Innovation

Innovation at Fire means solving real problems with purpose and insight. Our deep in-house expertise, combined with team members who sit on industry boards and actively participate in discussions and decision-making, keeps us closely connected to advances in regulation and innovation across the payment systems in Ireland and the UK. This helps us stay close to the market and ahead of its direction. It also supports our goal of creating the next generation of payment solutions that are not only functional and secure but also intuitive and impactful. As a regulated provider with the agility of a small business, we’re able to move quickly on developments that make a real difference.

Growth without politics: Learning and development at Fire

Fire is for people who want to grow fast and make a real difference. Our flat structure means your voice matters, and we actively support your development without unnecessary hierarchy or bureaucracy.

Our induction plan reflects Fire’s commitment to development, taking a robust long-term approach. New hires spend several weeks gaining an overview of all areas of the business, which helps build a deep understanding of Fire and the payments industry before fully diving into their roles.

Learning doesn’t stop there. We run annual training sessions to ensure our team members understand Fire’s obligations and our obligations as individual team members, and are always encouraged to set up ad-hoc training sessions to help us do our day-to-day jobs better. Fire also facilitates external training opportunities for our colleagues, so they can develop the skills they need to shine.

Career progression at Fire is about flexibility and growth. For example, a colleague spent several years in operations before deciding to explore a new path in product management. Supported by training and internal mobility, she successfully transitioned teams, bringing valuable insights from her previous role that benefit cross-functional collaboration.

Because we’re a small, dynamic company, new skills are always valued. Employees have the opportunity to identify areas they want to develop, and we foster an environment of patience and support that helps people grow steadily over the long term.

The Fire team in action

At Fire, the impact of our work is visible and that’s what makes it fulfilling. One team member summed it up well: “It’s great seeing projects I have worked on out in the real world. Also, the fact that I enjoy my job. I like coming into work!”

We’re a small, cross-functional team where individual contributions shape how the company evolves. Whether it’s operations, sales, product, IT or risk and compliance, everyone has the opportunity to make a real impact. As a colleague put it:
“The most rewarding part of my role is being able to bring an idea from just a thought right the way through to a functioning service that really helps our customers or colleagues. It’s also really rewarding to be part of a small team so that your voice and opinions are heard.”

We take pride in our product and the value it brings to businesses. That’s reflected in how we approach sales, with a focus on building lasting relationships and delivering solutions that work:
“Being a product-led sales team, it is all about providing good products to businesses that would benefit. Working through each stage of implementation with our customers is incredibly rewarding.”

Operations is another area where variety and collaboration are key:
“Operations is a dynamic team to work in. It’s easy to branch out and get involved in other initiatives and areas. Beyond that, the team are all a pleasure to work with in any capacity.”

Routines, rituals and real collaboration

While the pace is fast and the work meaningful, our week is structured to keep everyone connected and informed. Each team holds their own weekly catch-ups, and every Thursday the whole company comes together to share updates across departments. Our weekly all-hands meeting is a highlight, also featuring a light-hearted chat where team members share everything from a new favourite snack to a funny holiday story.

Getting together for both work and socialising is part of our office culture. That includes in-person workshops and whiteboarding sessions where collaboration helps improve decision-making. Wednesdays are dedicated office days for the Operations team, while Product and IT teams are in on Thursdays. That’s also when we gather for a Fire-sponsored breakfast which is a team favourite. When the sun’s out, we head to the nearby food market for a relaxed picnic-style lunch.

Fire’s working environment is one where people collaborate naturally, contribute to meaningful outcomes, and enjoy spending time together.

Built for builders: Is Fire the right fit for you?

Fire is a business where every role matters. We’re a small team, so every person’s impact is visible. That makes it easy to stand out if you’re committed, proactive, and motivated to do great work. We value and acknowledge team members that are engaged with their work and consistently deliver to a high standard.

We don’t have multiple layers of management, so we rely on each other to take ownership and follow through. Team members who are strong collaborators, take the initiative to solve problems and actively look for ways to contribute to Fire’s success thrive here.

At Fire we value experience, but we also see mindset as a key to success. Being committed, curious and service-driven are just as important as your skills. If you’re someone who wants to build, solve, and grow, we would love to hear from you.

Where we’re going and why should you join us?

Fire’s vision is to transform how businesses send and receive payments. Our mission is to simplify payments for businesses across the UK and Ireland, making them more efficient, more reliable, and easier to manage.

As we grow, we’re looking for people who want to make an impact. If that sounds like you, take a look at our open roles or get in touch.
