Meet Quality Assurance Engineer, Shilpa Kala
We interviewed Shilpa, Quality Assurance Engineer based in our Dublin office, to learn about her experience at Fire and her journey in the payments sector.
Hello Shilpa! How long have you been part of the Fire team?
Since October 2021, so almost 3 years and counting!
Can you tell us about your day-to-day role?
I work as Quality Assurance Engineer, responsible for writing and executing test cases and building comprehensive test reports. My role involves contributing to the preparation of test plans and strategies to ensure the product remains defect-free and of high quality. I conduct both manual and automated testing on web and mobile platform.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Ensuring quality, finding defects, continuous process development and contributing to delivering to project success with high customer satisfaction. Dedication, commitment, and responsibility are key to project success and customer satisfaction.
What's been the most challenging project you've worked on?
Working in a new domain is always a significant challenge for me. However, it provides valuable opportunities to learn new skills, explore emerging technologies, and stay updated with current trends.
Tell us about your background! What drew you to Fire and the field of software testing?
Throughout my career, I have tested various domains including webmail, document management, change management processes, bill of materials for manufacturing, and incident and audit management for sustainable processes. Currently, I am with Fire where significant future developments are expected, leveraging diverse technologies. This includes trending areas like open banking, digital contactless payments, and mobile payment technologies. It’s an excellent environment for learning new skills and tackling new challenges.

What excites you the most about the payments sector?
Driving innovation in the payment industry involves leveraging new technologies to enhance the efficiency of digital payments, open banking, and digital wallets, while also improving customer service. As we advance into the future with AI and blockchain technologies, there is immense potential for adaptation and improvement in these areas.
How do you like to unwind outside of work? Any hobbies you enjoy?
I like drawing – more specifically, I’m into pencil sketching. I also enjoy reading, playing badminton, and cricket.
