Meet Operations Analyst, Patrick Whelan

Operations Analyst, Patrick is part of our Dublin team. We sat down with him to find out what it’s like working at Fire and what brought him to the payments industry.

Hi Patrick! How long have you been with the company?

I’m now celebrating my one-year anniversary with the company.

What does your job involve?

As an Operations Analyst, I work with teams across the business to support key operational areas, including Customer Onboarding, Treasury Operations, Operations Compliance, and Support. The role is varied and collaborative, giving me the opportunity to contribute across different areas of the business while continuing to develop my skills and knowledge.

What do you find most rewarding about your role as an Operations Analyst?

The most rewarding part of my role is the opportunity to make a positive impact by working closely with customers, understanding their needs, and helping to improve their overall experience. I also really value being part of the Operations Team and collaborating with colleagues across the wider business to support new initiatives and drive continuous improvement. Working with different teams makes the role varied, meaningful, and engaging.

What is the most exciting challenge you’ve worked on yet?

Since joining Fire, I have worked on improving several key operational processes, including account closures, customer detail updates, and limit adjustments. These changes have helped enhance the customer experience in these areas while also supporting the Operations Team’s day-to-day efficiency.

I have also been involved in onboarding several key clients to the platform. This has been a great opportunity to work closely with teams across the business to ensure clients have a smooth onboarding experience and are set up within the required timelines.

Can you tell us about your background and what motivated you to join a company like Fire?

My background is in technology, with experience across Payment Operations and Risk & Compliance. This combination is what sparked my interest in fintech, and I enjoy working at the intersection of technology, payments, and compliance.

When I came across the opportunity to join Fire, I was excited as it aligned well with my experience and the direction I want to take my career.

Summarise the culture in three words?

Innovative, collaborative, and supportive.

What do you like most about working in the payments industry?

What I enjoy most about the payments industry is how fast paced and constantly evolving it is. There is always something new to learn, whether it’s new technology, changing regulations, or evolving customer needs.

It’s exciting to be part of an industry that plays such an important role in everyday life and continues to innovate.

And how about outside of work? What do you get up to in your spare time?

Outside of work, I enjoy going for walks or hikes, catching up with friends, joining a run club or Parkrun at the weekend, and playing a bit of tag rugby during the summer.
