Meet Marketing Executive, Melinda Szabo-Havas

Meli works as a Marketing Executive in our Dublin team. We caught up with her to hear about her journey at Fire and what drew her to the payments industry.

Hello Meli! Can you tell us how long you’ve been with the company?

I joined Fire in August 2022, so it’s been two years already and counting!

What are your main responsibilities in your role?

As Marketing Executive, I oversee Fire’s marketing activities, including our website, social media channels, content creation, campaigns, event marketing, and external-facing materials. My focus is on keeping our brand engaging, consistent, and visible across all channels, while supporting other departments in doing the same.

What’s the most rewarding part of your work as a Marketing Executive?

What I find most rewarding is the variety in my role. I get to handle everything from copywriting and design to project management and creating standards. I love seeing how my work directly impacts the company and knowing it truly makes a difference. Each day brings new challenges, and it’s great to see the positive effect my contributions have on the business.

What’s the most exciting challenge you’ve worked on to date?

It’s difficult to choose, as I’ve had the opportunity to help build Fire’s growth function and marketing department, which has meant working on lots of exciting projects. However, the biggest challenge was probably renewing our website. The previous site was outdated in terms of content and branding, so we needed a complete revamp. That included refining our branding, visual direction, and messaging, and then managing the website’s renewal from start to finish.

What’s your background, and what inspired you to join a company like Fire?

I got into fintech by chance when some of my university friends founded a startup developing an app to support teenagers’ financial education. They asked me to join as a marketing person, and I jumped at the opportunity. That’s how I first got involved in the sector and discovered how exciting and fast-changing it is. I also learned a lot about finance myself and became increasingly interested in it as I realised how it impacts every part of our daily lives. When I moved to Ireland in 2023, I wanted to work for a similarly small and innovative company, tackling a real problem in a niche area of fintech or payments, and that’s how I found Fire!

If you had to sum up the culture in three words, what would they be?

Supportive, collaborative, and talented.

What do you find most exciting about working in the payments sector?

It’s never boring and always keeps us on our toes! There’s also constant room for innovation and improvement, which makes the sector both exciting and competitive.

What do you like to get up to when you’re not at work?

I love being outdoors and surrounded by greenery. I also enjoy staying active, so running, hiking, and gardening are some of my favourite activities. I’m quite crafty too and often take on small DIY projects.

Do you have any unusual talents, quirks, or fears?

My reflexes are so good, I sometimes even surprise myself! I often catch falling objects mid-air or stop things from tipping over when they get knocked.
