Meet Business Development Manager, Joe Tallon

Business Development Manager, Joe is part of our London team. We sat down with him to find out what it’s like working at Fire and what brought him to the payments industry.

Hello Joe! How long have you been with the company?

I joined in February 2025, so I’m just coming up to a year now.

What does your job involve?

My role involves a mix of responsibilities. The primary focus is managing the sales cycle for our UK opportunities. From prospecting to solution implementation, I cover all aspects of Fire’s sales journey. I also dedicate time to managing our existing accounts, ensuring they receive the required support and service, and keeping them informed of industry and regulatory changes, as well as Fire’s product development.

What do you find most rewarding about your role as a Business Development Manager?

As our solution fits a variety of industries, I’m fortunate to speak to people from many different backgrounds and support their businesses with their payment journeys. It can be challenging at times, but it is always worthwhile when a client shares positive feedback after we have helped make their processes that bit easier.

What is the most exciting challenge you’ve worked on yet?

I genuinely enjoy exploring business strategy. Having the opportunity to shape and define the sales process within Fire has been one of the most rewarding challenges I’ve worked on.

What’s your background? Why did you want to join a company like Fire?

I’ve worked in payments for a number of years, from merchant services to foreign exchange, and it’s an industry I’ve always wanted to stay in. As the Fire product suite combines a range of payment solutions, my experience naturally aligned with the business. Fire was an easy choice, as it offered the opportunity to help shape how a business grows and provided access and exposure to established professionals within the payments industry.

Summarise the culture in three words?

Inclusive, collaborative, and innovative.

What do you like most about working in the payments industry?

I think it’s an all-encompassing industry. Everyone uses digital payments, often without even realising it. The speed at which the industry is growing and evolving keeps me on my toes, and I really enjoy that.

And how about outside of work? What do you get up to in your spare time?

I’m borderline obsessed with golf, although my love for the game seems to change with each round I play, and fellow golfers will understand. Aside from that, I’m an avid home cook, always trying out new recipes with the often unnecessary cooking equipment I’ve collected over the years.

Do you have any unusual or quirky skills or fears?

Fourteen-year-old me would immediately say Mario Kart, and I think I would still back myself with that today. That refers to skill rather than an unusual fear.
